Eyeglasses and Contact Lenses - More Style, Same Utility
May 14, 2008
At one time, promotions on television advertised a new, sexier you if you elected to lose the glasses and pop in a pair of contact lenses. This image has always been demonstrated in Superman comics, television programs and movies.
He’s a bit of a geek or too normal a guy, but when the glasses come off - he’s Superman. Fortunately, the image- makers and shakers that relegated eyeglasses to the awkward, the nerd gear of decades past has begun to embrace glasses for the fashionable, functional necessity they have become.
The differences between glasses and contact lenses are more related to personal issues of comfort than to image. Arguments can be made in support of contacts over eyeglasses.
For example, contact lenses are worn directly over the eye allowing natural vision and no distortion as some eyeglass wearers may experience because of the small gap between the lens of the glasses and your eye.
There is always a constant awareness of the frames as well as the reflections off the backside of the lens. While most eyeglass wearers become so accustomed as to hardly notice the discrepancy, it becomes more pronounced when switching between contacts and glasses.
How To Wear Contact Lenses In The Allergy Season
May 14, 2008
The allergy seasons are a real challenge, especially if you wear contact lenses. A chronic allergy to mold, pet dander or other environmental allergens can create a year-round dilemma. No matter what the cause, seasonal allergies make your eyes hypersensitive and irritated. Ordinary soft contact lenses often make them feel even worse.
There’s a lot you can do to reduce the misery of allergy season. Keep your contacts as clean as you can whether you have to use lubricating drops to rinse your eyes out regularly. Remove your contacts and clean them in a solution throughout the day, if they are not ‘one-per-day’ type lenses.
Allergy induced conjunctivitis, a condition that causes painful swelling and redness of the eyes, can make wearing your contacts a real pain. If this becomes a real issue, it’s best to consult your optometrist. Disposable lenses allow you a more comfortable lens that you can trash at the end of the day. You’ll have no more worries about making sure all the dust and pollen has been removed or cleansed.
Belly Rings: Sexy is as Sexy Does
May 13, 2008
Body piercings have been the object of much controversy — besides being an artistic expression and a celebration of one’s physical endowments. The belly ring is such a piece of jewelry.
In times of old, body piercings were treated differently, depending on the culture. As most body piercings had ritual or ceremonial value, many cultures prohibited specific types of body piercing that were purely for the sake of adornment. The warriors of old Central and South American civilizations sported body piercings, specifically in the nose area, in order to appear more intimidating to their enemies. On the other hand, lip piercings and decorations were meant to enhance attractiveness, especially among women of the day and age.
And while body piercings were more or less common in ancient Egypt, the ancient Egyptian pharaohs actually appropriated specific types of piercings. For example, no one BUT members of the royal family should wear a belly ring, on pain of death! Talk about the price of vanity.
Nowadays there is still some stigma associated with body piercings, especially among young women. It may be true that piercing is not always a safe practice, but more and more tattoo parlors are adopting measures that will ensure that infection is at least avoided. The increasing popularity of body jewelry cannot be ignored, especially since things like the belly ring and lip ring are making their way to MTV!
Take Your Children For a Spray Tan!
May 12, 2008
Have you ever tried to get your teenage son or daughter to stop sun tanning, only to realize after several months/years, that you will not win with peer pressure?
The look of a suntanned body is “in” more than ever, and the tanning industry is one of the fastest growing beauty sectors. Do we have to see our children sacrifice their health for sake of fashion?
Not necessarily. Working in a tanning industry, I am watching a growing trend: parents are bringing in their children for a spray tan. Some as young as 11.
Is this a case of vanity?
Maybe, but as one of those mothers explained to me: “I had a death in the family because of the skin cancer, and myself, I had few cancerous spots removed. I know the danger, and I am not prepared to risk my daughter getting sick or dying. I am teaching her right habits so that she fits in with her friends, but takes care of herself at the same time.”
Suddenly, it did not sound so vain any more. After all, I feel that my first duty as a mother is to keep my children safe. I make sure that I teach them how to cross the road and eat healthy foods, why not teach them how to avoid melanoma?
7 Tips to Keep Your Skin Looking Great
May 11, 2008
1. Healthy Food: Keep your skin fresh and glowing by eating antioxidant-rich foods. Choose foods that are bright in color, such as broccoli, carrots, blueberries and tomatoes. When you eat healthy and exercise regularly you are much more likely to have great skin.
2. Sunburn Treatment: First to avoid the chance of sunburn always use a sun block that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. If you are unfortunate and get sunburn, take a bath in lukewarm water using a moisturizing bath product such as Aveeno. Follow with a moisturizer.
3. Help for Rough Hands: Use Mary Kay, Satin Hands. It has an exfoliant and a moisturizer that leaves hands feeling ever so soft. Or, apply an extra emollient cream at night and then slip on a pair of cotton gloves and you’ll wake up with hands that feel much softer.
4. Eliminate Bumpy skin: If your skin feels rough (has little bumps) use a body scrub once a week and you will feel a difference.
5. Get rid of Back Pimples: If you get pimples on your back try a body wash that is make for acne (such as Clearasil) and watch your acne disappear.
Reversing the Aging Process
May 10, 2008
Many scientists would say that we don’t know what is responsible for the aging process. Others might say that it is a normal part of the life cycle. I would like put forth a new and exciting observation here that may shed significant light on the causes of the aging process and on how it may potentially be not only stopped but reversed. What follows is based on anecdotal case study research that I have done and continue to undertake with a new tool I have developed called the Mind Resonance Process(TM)(MRP).
Over the last 10 years I have been working with MRP to help individuals effectively dissolve negative limiting beliefs and emotions that they carry in their consciousness. Such beliefs and emotions are stored in the mind/body as a result of the learning and life experience of the particular individual. Now although some beliefs can be altered over time with new learning, most which result from repeated experiences become almost “hardwired” within the person. Such hardwiring implies that there is an actual physiological change that occurs in the physical body at many levels.
Jewelry of Semi-Precious Stones: Stylish Things of Beauty
May 9, 2008
Want to make or wear impressive costume jewelry, but running on a tight budget? Using semi-precious stones is one good way to achieve this. These stones come in a wide variety and are highly accessible to almost everyone. Semi-precious stones preserve the effect of sophistication. Many pieces of jewelry made of these stones are pleasant to look at without seeming opulent. Depending on one’s own taste and fashion sense, these gemstones have the greatest potential to enhance one’s personal sense of style.
Some semi-precious stones are also birthstones, which correspond to people’s birth months. Some people believe that wearing stones that correspond with one’s birth month increases one’s inner strength. This special trait makes jewelry made of certain semi-precious birthstones especially useful as gifts. Examples of such birthstones are garnet (January) and aquamarine (March).
Another popular belief is that certain stones have their own unique “powers.” For example, wearing garnet is said to help ease the pain of a bad breakup, or cause jealousy between lovers. Amethyst is said to protect its wearer against the ill effects of alcohol, slow down intoxication and prevent hangovers. Turquoise is said to give emotional strength. Jade has always had enormous importance in Asian civilization; it is said to have the mystical power to protect its wearer against nightmares and other psychic attacks.
Taming The Frizz
May 9, 2008
My daughter hates her hair. Several of my friends hate their hair, too. Why? Because it tends to frizz!
We’re not talking afro style frizz here or even anything remotely close, but when your hair’s supposed to be sleek and smooth, even the tiniest amount of frizz can be frustrating.
While I’m not going to suggest I can cure your problems, having had my share of the frizzes I’ve picked up a good few tips through the years and hopefully, by following them, you’ll soon be experiencing frizz-free days, too.
* DO NOT wash you hair daily
Although you may feel that your hair will be dirty if you don’t wash it every morning while you shower, others are very unlikely to notice. Only greasy hair will show signs of being unwashed after one day and frizzy hair is rarely greasy. On the contrary, the fact that you’re stripping away your hair’s natural oils is the most likely cause of your frizz problem. Leave your hair for 3-4 days between washes.
* DO use conditioner
Slather On That Tanning Bed Lotion
May 8, 2008
Tanning bed lotions abound. How do you choose from all the tanning bed lotions available?
There are tanning bed lotions that are in cream form. There are tanning bed lotions that are gels or oils. You can find tanning bed lotions that function as accelerators.
Tanning bed lotions are named to sound like wonderful desserts or sexy adventures. Do these tanning bed lotions work better than the ones that you can buy at WalMart?
I have tried a variety of tanning bed lotions and can not see much difference between the very expensive ones and the tanning bed lotions that are less costly.
First I bought one of the pricey tanning bed lotions from my tanning salon. It worked just fine and lasted about 2 months. Most of the tanning bed lotions at the salon are at least $20 a bottle.
Then I used the little containers offered for $2 a shot. I tried five different "shots" and they all seemed to work about the same. Using these tanning bed lotions did not seem to make my skin softer. Using these tanning bed lotions did not make my tan last longer and slathering myself with these expensive tanning bed lotions did not seem to accelerate my tan.
Wolf Jewelry: Dances With Vogue
May 7, 2008
When shopping for jewelry, one can see two extremes in any motif lineup: the delicate, feminine extreme, and the strong, masculine extreme. Among the “strong” extremes, wolf jewelry stands out as a common favorite — it is, after all, the symbol of virility and independence, rebellion and complete self-possession. When one wears the most common types of masculine wolf jewelry, one is virtually saying, “I’m tough; don’t mess with me.”
But nowadays, a greater diversity of designs exists for jewelry themes, even wolf jewelry. For example: the popular fantasy comic Elfquest’s artist Wendy Pini has popularized the use of delicate wolf motifs, which are smoothly curving, streamlined and sensual without compromising the impregnable visage of the real-life wolf. Pini’s wolf designs symbolize neither male nor female, but nature as a whole.
Kevin Costner made a smash hit with his appearance in the romantic period dramatic film “Dances With Wolves.” In that movie he celebrated the qualities that are as essential to humans as they are to wolves: loyalty, honor, trust and freedom. Wolves remain a symbol of all these virtues. The moon is also associated very closely with the image of the wolf, as images of wolves howling at the full moon continue to be popular in today’s culture.
